TOPS Surgical Specialty Hospital is seeking a skilled and compassionate Pre-Op Registered Nurse to join our dynamic surgical team. The Pre-Op RN plays a crucial role in preparing patients for surgical procedures, ensuring they are physically and emotionally ready for surgery. This position requires a keen attention to detail, strong critical-thinking skills, and a commitment to providing exceptional patient care.

The Pre-Op RN is responsible for assessing patient needs, verifying medical history, administering preoperative medications, and educating patients and their families on surgical procedures and post-operative care. They collaborate with physicians, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver seamless and efficient care, supporting the overall mission, vision, and values of our organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough preoperative assessments, including reviewing medical history, verifying allergies, and evaluating lab results.

  • Administer preoperative medications as prescribed and ensure patient stability before surgery.

  • Provide patient and family education regarding the surgical procedure, expectations, and post-operative care instructions.

  • Work collaboratively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the surgical team to coordinate care plans.

  • Ensure adherence to aseptic techniques and infection control policies.

  • Monitor patients for any signs of distress or complications and take appropriate actions as needed.

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all patient interactions and interventions.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to teamwork, professionalism, and excellence in patient care.


Required Skills

  • Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.

  • Strong knowledge of surgical procedures and perioperative care.

  • Understanding and implementation of aseptic techniques.

  • Ability to care for patients of all ages, from pediatrics to geriatrics.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing patient conditions.

  • Strong communication, teaching, and organizational skills.

  • A team-oriented mindset with a commitment to patient safety and quality improvement.


Required Experience

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (BSN preferred).

  • Current Texas Nursing License.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in Pre-Op or PACU nursing.

  • Previous experience in an ambulatory surgery center setting is preferred.
